A Virtual Tour of My Nimble Arctic 25

I have been intending to write this blog about Isabella, my Nimble Arctic 25 for a while. I finally got the boat in good enough shape to provide a virtual tour.

The sailboat is not the fastest boat–it’s a cruiser–but it’s a great one for me. Plus it has a few challenges that will help me grow as a sailor.

Nimble’s are older boats, in production from 1988 to 1993, but their owners are loyal. They were designed by legendary designer Ted Brewer, and the attention to detail is excellent. Their commitment is revealed in how their value holds up in the used marketplace.

My boat is 25′ long at the water line, but because it’s yawl rigged (has a second, mizzen mast) it sails more like a 30-footer.

A couple of the key features for me were:

  • The boat is very stable.
  • A retractable keel allows me to navigate in very shallow waters, with a draft of a little over 2 feet with the centerboard up.
  • The cabin is very comfortable, allowing for overnight cruises.
  • The Nimble can handle just about any weather. The limitation is the captain, not the boat.
  • The hatches and portals create excellent ventilation.
  • A gasoline-powered outboard alleviates a need for me to become a diesel engine mechanic.
  • We can navigate using the tiller in the cockpit or a wheel inside the cabin.
